Job Description
GitLab is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Custom Models team, which focuses on providing customers with the ability to use their self-hosted and fine-tuned models within the GitLab product. This role involves collaborating with various teams in the AI space to ensure a full lifecycle of evaluating, fine-tuning, storing, deploying, and protecting models. The Engineering Manager will define processes and best practices while growing a high-performing team.
Role involves:
- Managing a team of engineers across multiple disciplines.
- Collaborating cross-functionally to gather requirements and deliver customer-focused AI products.
- Assisting in the architecting of solutions that enable customization of GitLab's AI models.
- Monitoring progress, unblocking obstacles, and ensuring on-time delivery for the team.
- Coaching and mentoring team members to support their professional growth.
- Promoting a culture of innovation, inclusion, and delivery.
Requirements:
- 5+ years managing high-performing engineering teams.
- Expertise in machine learning and experience with techniques like running models, transfer learning, open source models and model fine-tuning.
- Data-driven approach to improving team productivity and effectiveness.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management abilities.
- Passion for advancing AI technology and building a world-class team.
