Job Description
Lucid Motors is seeking a Steering Engineer to contribute to the design and development of steering components for its luxury electric vehicles. This role involves defining and delivering components that control the vehicle's direction through both human and autonomous inputs. The Steering Engineer will play a crucial role in shaping the future of mobility by working alongside accomplished professionals in the industry.
The Role Involves:
- Designing and developing steering components from initial concept to PPAP, including electronic power steering gears, steering columns, and individual steering actuators.
- Establishing component requirements based on vehicle needs, such as lateral dynamics, steering feel, and durability.
- Planning the technology roadmap for the steering system for future vehicles.
- Designing with attention to detail at both system and component levels.
- Guiding and leading other members of the chassis team in their design of steering components.
- Collaborating with internal teams and external suppliers to integrate multiple systems efficiently.
- Coordinating virtual engineering and physical validation testing activities.
- Managing multiple complex projects in a demanding environment.
Requirements:
- 2+ years of automotive industry experience, primarily focused on steering systems.
- Experience in designing steering components and/or systems from concept to PPAP.
- Understanding of automotive mechatronics design and control theory.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD, project leadership, and mentoring skills.
- Hands-on experience in prototype assembly.
- Experience in technology, system, and supplier selection.
- Design release engineering experience, including engineering change management and project management.
- BS/BEng or MS/MEng in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
