Job Description

Twilio is seeking a Principal Design Researcher to join their Emerging Technology and Innovation (ETI) team. This role is focused on Horizon 3 innovation, which involves creating and validating breakthrough product concepts that could significantly impact the enterprise landscape in the next 3-5 years.

The Principal Design Researcher will work alongside researchers, engineers, and product managers to develop unproven ideas into working prototypes. They will identify and validate opportunities that can shape Twilio's future growth and the broader technology ecosystem.

Role involves:

  • Leading end-to-end qualitative and quantitative design research.
  • Providing thought leadership and frameworks that connect research findings to business and product strategy.
  • Synthesizing complex data into clear, actionable narratives for senior executives, product managers, and engineers.
  • Collaborating with Product and Design to rapidly test new hypotheses via concepts, prototypes, and MVPs.
  • Mentoring and elevating best practices for design research across the Horizon 3 team and broader Twilio UX community.
  • Representing the voice of the customer in every conversation.

Requirements:

  • 7+ years of experience in design research, user research, or a related field.
  • Proven track record of leading ambiguous, zero-to-one research programs.
  • Mastery of a wide array of research methods.
  • Experience with qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Exceptional communication, storytelling, and influence skills.
  • Passion for working on highly cross-functional teams.
  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in HCI, Design, Psychology, Anthropology, or a related discipline.
