Job Description
Khan Academy is seeking a Commercial Counsel to join their mission-driven team. This role involves shaping playbooks and processes to scale the organization's impact on learners, families, and schools. The Commercial Counsel will report to the Associate General Counsel and work with other members of the Commercial Legal Team.Khan Academy values diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, and is committed to investing in its people.What this role involves:
  • Negotiating commercial contracts for school district sales and vendor engagements.
  • Building templates, playbooks, training materials, and workflows.
  • Partnering cross-functionally with Sales, Security, Support, and Philanthropy teams.
  • Owning the legal and compliance aspects of RFP submissions.
  • Acting as a first-line business partner to functional teams.
  • Providing support on NDAs, vendor agreements, and other commercial matters.
Requirements:
  • JD from an accredited law school and active member in good standing of at least one state bar.
  • 4-6 years of legal experience, including in-house experience.
  • Strength in commercial sales contracting, including SaaS agreements and regulated industries.
  • Solid foundation in privacy, data protection, and security.
  • Ability to analyze, assess, and communicate risks.
  • Understanding of student data privacy regulations (FERPA, COPPA).
  • Interest in the education sector.
