Lead Traversal Animator

Job Description

Insomniac Games, a part of PlayStation, is seeking a Lead Traversal Animator to guide and inspire a team of animators. The Lead Animator will deliver top-tier traversal animations that meet the highest quality standards set by the Animation Director. This role involves close collaboration with the Game Director, as well as the design and engineering teams, to ensure animations are technically sound and creatively aligned with the game’s artistic and narrative vision.Role involves:

• Collaborating with the Animation Director to establish an animation style.
• Providing constructive feedback and mentorship to animators.
• Conducting weekly animation reviews.
• Managing direct reports, including performance reviews and career growth.
• Preparing and directing mocap shoots.
• Developing and maintaining an animation schedule.
• Evaluating the animation team’s Jira queues.
• Leading a cross-departmental pod focused on traversal-related tasks.
• Contributing to asset identification for upcoming assignments.
• Reviewing animation and run levels in-game.
• Staying informed of project updates.
• Contributing with direct animation as needed (up to 50% of the time).
• Maintaining a strong understanding of character setup processes.
• Exploring and introducing advancements in animation technology.
• Ensuring a professional and respectful work environment.

Requirements:

• In-depth knowledge of Maya, including FK and IK techniques and basic rigging methodologies.
• Proficiency with office programs and production tracking programs.
• Proficiency with non-linear editing programs, such as Premiere.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to articulate ideas effectively.
• Ability to work well as part of a large team.
• Ability to communicate effectively with other project leads.
• Open and supportive attitude with members of the animation department.
