Job Description
The New York Times is seeking a Director of Sustainability Reporting and Analytics to develop and oversee sustainability data collection and reporting, focusing on greenhouse gas accounting and analysis. This role involves strategic planning, collaboration, and ensuring accurate disclosure of sustainability performance. The Director will drive continuous improvement in sustainability reporting, aligning with regulatory requirements and partner expectations. This position reports to the Assistant Controller and is based in Midtown New York City, with a hybrid work schedule of 3 in-office days per week.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead sustainability reporting processes, including greenhouse gas emissions reporting (Scope 1, 2, and 3).
  • Partner with finance, legal, and communications teams for reporting accuracy and regulatory compliance.
  • Monitor regulatory landscapes and develop reporting practices.
  • Develop customer inquiry response strategy.
  • Develop internal controls over data collection and reporting processes.
  • Track and forecast progress against climate targets and benchmark performance.
  • Develop standardized processes for climate-related data collection and reporting.
  • Perform data analysis to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improving GHG emissions performance.
  • Support the value of journalistic independence.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting.
  • 10+ years experience in Sustainability, ESG Reporting, SEC Reporting.
  • Experience with corporate greenhouse gas emission accounting (Scope 1, 2, and 3).
  • Advanced proficiency in GHG accounting methodologies and reporting frameworks (e.g., GHG Protocol, CDP, SASB, ISSB, GRI).
  • Mastery of spreadsheet, presentation, analytics, database, and financial applications.
