Software Engineer, Traffic Infrastructure

Job Description

Discord is seeking a Software Engineer to join the Traffic Infrastructure team. This team is responsible for evolving how Discord handles petabytes of network traffic daily. The Software Engineer will play a crucial role in scaling Discord's infrastructure to serve billions of requests per day, defending against malicious traffic, and facilitating seamless communication between internal services. They will maintain critical systems that support nearly every function of Discord's platform, ensuring an efficient and reliable experience for hundreds of millions of users worldwide.

What this role involves:

• Becoming a subject matter expert for network infrastructure on a global scale.
• Troubleshooting complex problems across many layers of Discord’s architecture.
• Supporting the growth and stability of nearly every function of Discord.
• Establishing primitives that allow other teams to confidently and efficiently serve user requests.

What you should have:

• 3+ years of backend software engineering experience.
• Knowledge of networking fundamentals.
• Experience working with cloud providers like GCP or AWS.
• Experience validating assumptions with data and digging deeper when results are inconclusive.

Bonus Skills:

• Familiarity with Cloud Networking / Service Mesh (e.g. Envoy)
• Experience working with Kubernetes
