Job Description

Xaira Therapeutics is seeking a Principal Associate Scientist to join their Protein Biochemistry team. The candidate will play a crucial role in discovering and developing novel biotherapeutics. Xaira is an innovative biotech startup focused on leveraging AI to transform drug discovery and development. The company is leading the development of generative AI models to design protein and antibody therapeutics, enabling the creation of medicines against historically hard-to-drug molecular targets.Responsibilities include:

• Supporting the discovery and development of therapeutic molecules through hands-on laboratory work.
• Designing constructs for the expression of antibodies and other proteins.
• Expressing antibodies and other proteins using transient transfection in mammalian expression systems.
• Purifying proteins using a variety of chromatographic techniques.
• Performing antibody characterization assays using biophysical and biochemical methods.
• Storing antibodies and proteins in dedicated databases and maintaining detailed records.
• Analyzing experimental data, generating reports, and presenting findings to the team.
• Maintaining accurate and up-to-date experiment records in an ELN.
• Ensuring compliance with laboratory safety protocols.

Qualifications include:

• BA or MS degree in molecular biology, structural biology, biophysics, biochemistry, or a related discipline, with 4+ years of industry experience.
• Experience in molecular biology and vector design for protein expression.
• Extensive hands-on experience with mammalian cell expression systems.
• Deep experience in protein and antibody purification and characterization techniques.
• Experience in developing and optimizing protein purification methods.
• Experience in antibody characterization using biosensors, ELISA, MSD, and flow cytometry.
• Proficiency in data analysis software and statistical tools.
• Proactive attitude with a self-starter mindset.
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong collaborative skills and interest in working in cross-functional teams and a startup environment.
• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
• Ability to work independently with accountability and meticulous attention to detail.
