Trade Strategist (Pricing)

Job Description

Takealot.com, a leading online retailer in South Africa, is seeking a Trade Strategist (Pricing) to join their team in Cape Town. This role involves supporting the Trade Optimisation team by providing data-driven insights and strategic recommendations to improve business performance across key commercial levers.

Responsibilities:

• Analyze complex datasets to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Build and maintain models to guide commercial decisions.
• Partner with Retail, Marketplace, Supply Chain, and other stakeholders.
• Continuously improve tools, dashboards, and workflows.
• Translate business problems into structured analytical approaches.
• Take ownership of initiatives and adapt to changing priorities.
• Analyze list price structures to optimize margins.
• Develop models that guide base pricing decisions.
• Identify patterns in pricing elasticity.
• Leverage AI to improve efficiency.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field.
• 3–5 years of experience in data analytics or a relevant quantitative function.
• Functional domain experience related to pricing, promotions, or demand planning.
• Advanced Excel skills.
• Proficiency in SQL (Postgres, BigQuery).
• Experience using KNIME, R, or Python for data analysis and modeling.
• Understanding of retail dynamics.
• Strong problem-solving skills and creative thinking.
• Strong communication skills.
