Job Description
The AI Security Institute is seeking a Research Engineer to join their Societal Resilience team. This team focuses on studying the impact of advanced AI models on society, including risks related to criminal activities, overreliance on systems, misinformation, psychological wellbeing, and social engineering. The role involves designing and developing technical research projects to analyze usage data, conduct sociotechnical audits, and curate datasets for monitoring risks.

Role Involves:
  • Designing and running studies on the effects of AI on society.
  • Providing technical expertise to research projects.
  • Building data pipelines.
  • Creating demos and simulations.

Requirements:
  • Experience in computational social science, machine learning, or data science (especially NLP).
  • Experience building and maintaining complex data products.
  • Data Engineering skills (web scraping, OCR, Python requests, etc.).
  • Machine Learning Engineering skills (training models, neural network internals, multi-modal and agentic systems).
  • Experience designing measurement and monitoring methods.
  • Knowledge about frontier models and AI safety projects.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrable interest in the societal impacts of AI.

The role offers:
  • A salary range of £65,000 to £145,000 depending on experience.
  • Pension options available through the Civil Service website.
