Job Description
The ACLU is seeking applicants for a sponsored Legal Fellow position within its LGBTQ & HIV Project in New York City. This is a hybrid role requiring two days per week or eight days per month in the office. The Fellow will contribute to litigation and advocacy efforts, focusing on combating attacks on transgender and non-binary individuals. The ACLU has a long history of advocating for LGBTQ+ rights.
Role involves:
- Conducting legal research
- Drafting legal documents
- Participating in discovery and trials
- Providing support to ACLU affiliates
- Engaging in public speaking
Requirements:
- J.D. or expected J.D. by spring 2026
- Commitment to public interest law, civil liberties, criminal justice, and racial justice
- Excellent research, writing, and verbal communication skills
- Ability to conduct complex legal analysis and fact-finding
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and in a team
- Self-motivated with the ability to take initiative and manage tasks
