The Engineering Manager role at Backbase involves leading and developing high-performing, cross-functional teams of software engineers. The role requires bridging the gap between product and engineering, ensuring the teams deliver quality software that meets customer expectations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading, coaching, and developing software engineering teams.
  • Translating between product and engineering to ensure alignment.
  • Ensuring teams are set up for high performance and have a clear product plan.
  • Driving the team to gather feedback and take necessary actions.
  • Connecting structures, teams, and people, identifying and filling gaps.
  • Providing technical guidance and support to team members.
  • Aligning engineering initiatives with company goals.
  • Supporting individual engineers’ growth and team success.
  • Defining and promoting team’s ways of working, hiring, and training strategies.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in software engineering or similar experience.
  • 7+ years of hands-on software development/engineering experience.
  • 2+ years with people management responsibilities.
  • 2+ years of experience in leading multi-disciplinary Agile development teams.
  • Good knowledge and experience with Agile methodologies (Scrum or Kanban).
  • Experience hiring engineers and defining onboarding/training strategies (a plus).
  • Understanding of technical practices (CI, automated testing, release management, performance monitoring).
  • Excellent English communication and presentation skills.
