Job Description
The Engineering Manager role at Backbase involves leading and developing high-performing, cross-functional teams of software engineers. The role requires bridging the gap between product and engineering, ensuring the teams deliver quality software that meets customer expectations.
Responsibilities include:
- Leading, coaching, and developing software engineering teams.
- Translating between product and engineering to ensure alignment.
- Ensuring teams are set up for high performance and have a clear product plan.
- Driving the team to gather feedback and take necessary actions.
- Connecting structures, teams, and people, identifying and filling gaps.
- Providing technical guidance and support to team members.
- Aligning engineering initiatives with company goals.
- Supporting individual engineers’ growth and team success.
- Defining and promoting team’s ways of working, hiring, and training strategies.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in software engineering or similar experience.
- 7+ years of hands-on software development/engineering experience.
- 2+ years with people management responsibilities.
- 2+ years of experience in leading multi-disciplinary Agile development teams.
- Good knowledge and experience with Agile methodologies (Scrum or Kanban).
- Experience hiring engineers and defining onboarding/training strategies (a plus).
- Understanding of technical practices (CI, automated testing, release management, performance monitoring).
- Excellent English communication and presentation skills.
