Job Description
Twilio is seeking a Senior Counsel, Sanctions and Export Control to manage the company’s compliance with U.S. export control and sanctions laws and regulations. The successful candidate will be responsible for furthering Twilio’s commitment to compliance. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of export and sanctions laws, regulations, and administrative agency practice. The candidate will possess high integrity and demonstrate a consistent track record of pragmatic cross-functional collaboration and sound legal advice across the organization.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide legal advice on sanctions and export controls to business operations, senior business leaders, and other key stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support, further develop, and implement Twilio's sanctions compliance program.
  • Participate in the implementation and enforcement of a governance framework.
  • Ensure ongoing and relevant monitoring of sanctions and export compliance risks.
  • Proactively identify and assess potential risks, and work with legal, policy, and operational teams to develop risk mitigation approaches.
  • Independently and confidently manage multiple internal stakeholders, including senior leadership, to implement pragmatic solutions.

Requirements:
  • A law degree from a U.S. accredited law school and be an active member in good standing with a state bar association.
  • A minimum of 7 years legal experience working as an attorney on trade matters.
  • Expertise in export controls and sanctions, including the OFAC and EAR regulations.
  • A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PPT), GSuite (Docs, Sheets, Slides), and Project Management software (Jira, Asana, AirTable (or similar), RAID logs, budgeting systems).
