Job Description
Mercy For Animals is seeking a dedicated Strategic Litigation Attorney to champion animal protection in Brazil. This role involves developing and implementing strategic litigation initiatives, representing the organization in legal proceedings, and contributing to the advancement of animal law, with a focus on protecting animals exploited for consumption.Responsibilities:- Identifying strategic litigation opportunities.
- Representing the organization in legal actions and administrative processes.
- Supporting the Investigations Department with legal advice.
- Collaborating with partner institutions.
- Working with external law firms on defense strategies.
- Developing and implementing legal initiatives.
- Conducting training and academic initiatives on Animal Law.
- Monitoring strategic litigation initiatives.
- Conducting legal research.
- Developing content related to animal exploitation.
- Staying updated on animal rights, environmental law, and related issues.
- Building relationships with legal professionals and organizations.
- Supporting the Legal Department with various tasks.
- Maintaining communication with the LatAm General Counsel.
- Complying with Mercy For Animals' policies and procedures.
- Law degree and active registration with the OAB.
- Experience in contentious and environmental law.
- Knowledge of strategic litigation and collective protection.
- Knowledge of animal rights.
- Availability to travel.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Fluency in Portuguese.
- Advanced English skills.
- Strong communication skills.
- Critical and strategic thinking.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence.
