Head of Engineering, Public Sector

Job Description

Scale is seeking a Head of Engineering to lead its Public Sector Engineering, Product, and Design team. This role involves driving the development of innovative AI/ML products for US Government clients. The Head of Engineering will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, design, sales, marketing, customer success, and operations, to bring AI/ML solutions from concept to deployment. They will also coordinate with company leadership on roadmap strategy and priorities.

Role involves:

• Setting the direction of the engineering team.
• Converting customer conversations into actionable product strategy.
• Ensuring high-quality execution and accelerating velocity for the federal organization.
• Breaking down product strategy and customer asks into technical building blocks.
• Working with cross-functional roles (business development, engineering, marketing, finance).
• Unblocking and pushing the team to hit deadlines.
• Using data for decision-making.
• Growing the team and setting them up for success.
• Fostering a collaborative, ambitious, and outcome-driven culture.
• Partnering with the People team to attract and engage top talent.
• Providing continuous feedback and recognizing individual strengths.

Requirements:

• TS Clearance minimum, ideally TS/SCI.
• 5+ years track record in engineering management and leadership positions.
• Track record of product development in the federal environment.
• Deep familiarity with the federal space and ideally, prior military or US government service.
• Experience building products with some AI/ML components.
• Ability to commute into one of our hubs in Washington, DC or San Francisco, CA.
