Job Description

The New York Times is seeking a HR Business Partner to be based in Seoul, Korea. This role will support employees and leaders across International newsroom hubs and bureaus in the Asia Pacific region. The HR Business Partner will provide guidance and solutions on people-related matters, drive a regional people strategy, and offer day-to-day HR support.

The HR Business Partner will act as a trusted advisor to leadership, proactively identify issues and opportunities, and drive change to ensure an equitable and inclusive culture. This is a hybrid role based in Seoul, requiring at least three days per week in the office, with potential for international travel. The role reports to the Director, HR Business Partner, International, based in New York.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a discrete and trusted advisor
  • Provide daily support including coaching and performance management
  • Collaborate with various departments to ensure smooth expatriate and relocation processes
  • Support organizational design, employee engagement, and talent development
  • Partner with Employee Relations and Legal to ensure compliance and resolve employee relations issues
  • Design and deliver impactful people initiatives
  • Monitor how business plans affect talent needs and HR priorities
  • Support talent acquisition efforts
  • Provide feedback on talent programs
  • Challenge existing viewpoints and offer practical ideas
  • Provide planning and communication support for people initiatives
  • Use HRIS metrics to identify trends and inform HR strategies
  • Guide annual compensation and promotion processes
  • Demonstrate support for journalistic independence

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in an HR Business Partner or similar role
  • Detailed knowledge of Korean HR and labor practices
  • Understanding of employment law in the Asia Pacific region
  • 3+ years of experience in organizational behavior, change management, talent management, policy implementation, employee relations, and communications
  • Experience working with an HRIS (e.g., Workday, SuccessFactors)
  • Fluency in English and Korean, written and spoken
