Job Description

The New York Times is seeking a Senior Asia Regional Editor to join its International desk in Seoul. This role involves managing coverage of the Asia region, guiding correspondents, and developing story ideas. The editor will collaborate with the leadership team to develop up-and-coming editors and work across the global newsroom to ensure continuous coverage.

Responsibilities:

  • Leading and inspiring a team of talented reporters and editors
  • Generating ideas and editing stories that demonstrate solid news judgment
  • Supervising and working with reporters and other editors to shape stories
  • Coordinating and communicating coverage during breaking and planned news events
  • Thinking creatively about new ways to tell stories
  • Coaching and developing editors and reporters across the desk
  • Demonstrating support and understanding of journalistic independence

Requirements:

  • Significant leadership experience
  • Extensive hands-on ability to write and edit news, enterprise, and feature pieces
  • Collegial and collaborative attitude
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to accuracy
  • Experience collaborating across departments
  • Flexibility as the newsroom’s needs evolve
  • Professional judgment with respect to confidentiality
