Job Description
Ethos is seeking an experienced Underwriting Rules Writer to join their team in Bangalore. This role is crucial for developing and refining underwriting rules that power Ethos's life insurance underwriting engine. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in life insurance underwriting, experience with rules engines, and a passion for leveraging technology to improve the customer experience.
Responsibilities:
- Co-author an automated underwriting rules ecosystem for the risk assessment process
- Maintain and improve existing rules within the engine
- Update underwriting criteria systematically applied by the system
- Review evidence and synthesize underwriting data from various sources
- Assess business risk for underwriting guideline changes
- Solidify protocols for rule and system enhancements
- Maintain documentation for underwriting criteria and workflows
- Prioritize system decisions based on business need and ROI
- Ensure end-user proficiency with new systems and applications
- Serve as a technical liaison between the Underwriting Strategy and IT teams
- Act as an underwriting rules expert for the Underwriting Strategy team
- Manage pre- and post-production testing of underwriting updates and data sources
- Foster psychological safety within the team
- Participate in data labeling to enhance underwriting model accuracy
Requirements:
- 3-5+ years of life new business underwriting and case management experience
- Extensive experience with underwriting rules engines and rules management
- Comfortable working in an agile environment (e.g., using JIRA)
- Understanding of data and models in underwriting
- Strong communication skills
- Proven ability to identify opportunities and deliver solutions
- Team player with a customer-centric mindset
- Experience in end-to-end unit testing
