Job Description
Lucid Motors is seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer to join their battery team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for supporting state-of-the-art electric vehicle battery systems through design improvements, cost optimization initiatives, root cause corrective action, and sustaining activities. The Staff Mechanical Engineer will also propose new design concepts to evolve the design into its next generation.
The role involves:
- Leading the design of core HV Battery components, such as the Battery Module, from initial concept through production.
- Leading the design of innovative HV Battery concepts through early design phases with the focus of cost, mass, performance and manufacturability.
- Working closely with cell & modeling engineers, battery systems, power electronics engineers, manufacturing, quality and other cross-functional teams.
- Designing prototypes, creating 3D CAD models, and developing test plans to validate designs.
- Interfacing internally and with external OEMs as the design lead for the HV Battery components.
Requirements:
- 4+ years of experience as a major contributor in a fast-paced engineering environment.
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including structural, thermal, and mechatronic design.
- Strong skills in 3D CAD (e.g., CATIA, 3DX, or similar) and familiarity with GD&T principles.
- Experience with manufacturing processes such as injection molding, sheet metal stamping, die casting, and more.
- Strong knowledge of GD&T and Creepage & Clearance principles.
- Experience with root cause analysis methods (e.g., 8D, FMEA).
- Proficiency with prototyping and shop tools.
