Senior Gameplay Engineer

Job Description

Sony PlayStation Studios is seeking a Senior Gameplay Engineer to join their team in Los Angeles. The candidate will contribute to a AAA console title, working within a newly established studio comprised of seasoned industry leaders. This role involves close collaboration with designers, artists, and other engineers to implement and refine core mechanics and systems.

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain key gameplay systems.
• Write clear and efficient code adhering to industry standards.
• Optimize gameplay code for exceptional feel and scalability.
• Collaborate with designers on feature prototypes.
• Provide guidance to the team on technical choices.
• Participate in playtesting, providing actionable feedback.
• Collaborate with QA to test and debug gameplay systems.
• Assist in planning upcoming features and identifying risks.
• Participate in architectural discussions and code reviews.
• Develop tools to streamline gameplay system iteration.

Requirements:

• Minimum 4+ years of game development experience.
• At least 2 years in gameplay-related disciplines.
• Strong interest in gameplay feel.
• 4+ years of Unreal Engine experience (UE4 or UE5), AAA experience is a plus.
• Strong proficiency in C++, familiarity with scripting languages.
• Experience designing and implementing gameplay features like weapons, player movement and AI.
• Excellent debugging and problem-solving skills.
• Effective communication skills for multidisciplinary teams.
