The African Leadership University (ALU) is seeking a Finance Controller to oversee financial activities across its Rwanda and Mauritius campuses. The Finance Controller will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting, implementing budgetary controls, and managing relationships with external auditors.

The role involves collaborating with the executive team to improve financial processes and internal controls, ensuring compliance with local regulations, and providing training and support to departmental staff on financial policies and procedures. The Finance Controller will also play a key role in identifying and mitigating financial risks.

Responsibilities include:
  • Overseeing financial control activities and ensuring accurate financial reporting.
  • Preparing and delivering management reports.
  • Leading the implementation of budgetary controls.
  • Coordinating with external auditors.
  • Optimizing financial software and tools.
  • Overseeing tax preparation and filing.
  • Ensuring compliance with tax and licensing requirements.
  • Collaborating with the executive team for process improvement.
  • Managing financial risks.

Requirements include:
  • A degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field (CPA, ACCA, or equivalent preferred).
  • 5-8 years of relevant financial management experience, with at least 3 years in a senior role, managing financial operations in a multinational environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of local financial regulations in both Mauritius and Rwanda.
  • Strong expertise in financial reporting, auditing, taxation, treasury management, and compliance.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing financial strategies, process improvements, and cost-efficiency initiatives.
  • Ability to lead, mentor, and develop teams, ensuring a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders effectively.
  • Expertise with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Sunsystems, Netsuite) and financial software tools.
