Senior RF Engineer

Job Description

Planet, a company focused on using space to help life on Earth, is seeking a Senior RF Engineer to join their team. Planet designs, builds, and operates the largest constellation of imaging satellites in history. This role is based in San Francisco, CA, requiring the candidate to be present at the headquarters 3 days a week.About the Role:The Senior RF Engineer will be responsible for developing next-generation onboard and ground radios and antenna systems. The engineer will make improvements in performance, reliability, and cost, including the architecture, design, and test of S-band through Ka-band radios and antennas. They will also work with vendors on design projects and PCB layout projects, interfacing with cross-functional teams.Role Involves:

• RF/MW hardware transceiver and circuit design up to 30GHz
• RF/MW system design, link budgets, and interference analysis
• EMI testing and mitigation
• Antenna design, simulation, and testing
• Digital communications theory and associated signal processing algorithms
• Software Defined Radio (SDR) platforms and signal processing libraries
• Validation and Verification of radios and antennas

Requirements:

• BSEE is required, MS/PhD preferred
• 6+ years of experience in designing RF & MW systems, transceivers, antennas and/or SDRs
• Sound fundamentals in RF/MW, electromagnetics, and signal processing
• Proven track record of owning, designing and criticizing RF/MW circuit design, RF/MW layout, component selection and evaluation
• Extensive lab experience with RF/MW and mixed-signal board bring up, characterization and test
• Ability to adapt and learn a multitude of skills
• Excellent documentation, presentation, and communication skills
