Software Engineer-Infrastructure & Tooling

Job Description

Tailscale is seeking an Infrastructure Engineer to build and maintain the critical systems that power its globally distributed infrastructure. The ideal candidate will design and automate systems at scale, write internal tools in Go, and take ownership of the infrastructure that enables every engineering and business function across the company. This role is perfect for engineers with a traditional ops background who have evolved into software-focused infrastructure roles.Role involves:

• Building and operating the internal infrastructure.
• Writing internal tools and services in Go.
• Designing and evolving multi-cloud infrastructure.
• Owning CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code tooling.
• Responding to production incidents and improving system reliability.
• Instrumenting systems for observability.
• Collaborating across teams to ship high-impact projects.

Requirements:

• Professional experience in infrastructure, SRE, or DevOps roles.
• Strong proficiency in Go or willingness to learn.
• Experience building or supporting high-availability distributed systems.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS preferred).
• Fluency in infrastructure as code (Terraform preferred).
• Ability to triage and mitigate production issues.
• Understanding of networking fundamentals.
• Strong communication skills.
