Software Engineer-Infrastructure & Tooling

Job Description

Tailscale is seeking an Infrastructure Engineer to contribute to the development and maintenance of its globally distributed infrastructure. The ideal candidate will design and automate systems at scale, develop internal tools using Go, and assume ownership of the infrastructure that supports all engineering and business functions within the company. This role is well-suited for engineers with a background in operations who have transitioned to software-focused infrastructure roles.Tailscale is looking for someone who excels at building reliable, observable, self-healing systems in production and enjoys tackling complex technical challenges across various cloud platforms.Role involves:

• Building and operating internal infrastructure.
• Writing internal tools and services in Go.
• Designing and evolving multi-cloud infrastructure.
• Owning CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code tooling.
• Responding to production incidents and improving system reliability.
• Instrumenting systems for observability.
• Collaborating across teams to ship high-impact projects.

Requirements:

• Professional experience in infrastructure, SRE, or DevOps roles.
• Proficiency in Go or willingness to learn.
• Experience building or supporting high-availability distributed systems.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS preferred).
• Experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform preferred) and CI/CD systems.
• Ability to triage and mitigate production issues.
• Understanding of networking fundamentals.
• Strong communication skills.
