Associate Head, Karya Institute

Job Description

Karya Institute is seeking an Associate Head to lead research on labor, skilling, and markets in the context of digital gig work. This role involves shaping the research agenda and driving key initiatives related to skilling, labor, and markets. The Associate Head will oversee a team of research specialists and collaborate with stakeholders, including donors and senior leadership, reporting to the Co-Founder & Chief Impact Officer.

Karya is on a mission to provide AI enabled earning and learning opportunities to economically underserved communities. The company aims to rapidly scale their impact by bringing economic opportunities to millions of underserved users in India.

Role Involves:

• Leading and managing a team of research specialists.
• Developing and implementing a cohesive research strategy.
• Managing a portfolio of research projects and collaborating with donors.
• Serving as Principal Investigator, overseeing research design and execution.
• Contributing to the development of new research themes.
• Representing Karya Institute in external forums.

Requirements:

• Master’s degree or PhD in Economics, Public Policy, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or a related field.
• At least 6+ years of experience in a research-focused role.
• Proven track record in managing complex research projects.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• Proficiency in GSuite, R/Python/STATA/Tableau, NVIVO/MaxQDA
• Extensive social science qualitative and quantitative design and analysis experience, with a specialization in development economics or impact evaluation.
