Oportun is seeking a Specialist for its FIU team. This role is crucial in managing fraud prevention and detection efforts. The specialist will work remotely, focusing on identifying and mitigating fraudulent activities to protect the company and its members.

The role involves:
  • Managing a fraud queue to detect and prevent fraudulent transactions.
  • Reviewing suspicious accounts using internal and external fraud tools.
  • Researching and analyzing data to detect fraudulent activity.
  • Tracking high-volume fraud trends and escalating issues to leadership.
  • Analyzing fraud trends and recommending process improvements.
  • Gathering and analyzing evidence related to fraud cases.
  • Interacting with members to assist with fraud-related challenges.
  • Conducting outbound calls for verification purposes.
  • Performing KYC/CDD checks for new and existing members.

Requirements:
  • 0-2 years of professional experience in fraud operations and/or AML/KYC document reviews.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency (written and oral) is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of KYC, SAR, AML, BSA, OFAC/FinCen is a plus.
  • Ability to analyze, summarize, and communicate findings effectively.
  • Knowledge of fraud investigative techniques and practices.
  • Strong attention to detail and self-motivation.
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to execute with urgency.
  • Experience in customer inquiry handling and providing exceptional customer service.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
