Job Description

Sony Pictures Imageworks Vancouver is seeking a skilled Animator to join their team. The Animator will be responsible for creating animated characters and objects that meet the required direction for various projects. This role involves animating both primary and secondary characters, utilizing traditional methods and computer graphics systems to create desired performances.

The Animator will work collaboratively with production, supervisors, and peers to problem-solve and share information related to assigned tasks. They must be able to decipher and follow through on shot turnovers, dailies, briefings, notes, and feedback. The ideal candidate should be able to work efficiently as part of a team or independently to determine various design solutions.

Responsibilities include:

• Creating animated characters and objects
• Animating primary and secondary characters
• Conveying emotion through body language and facial expressions
• Meeting schedules and show deadlines
• Participating in dailies, rounds, and team reviews
• Interacting with production, supervisors, and team members
• Following shot turnovers, dailies, briefings, notes, and feedback

Requirements:

• Strong understanding of the principles of animation
• Knowledge of applicable software packages, including Maya
• Background or experience in fine art
• Understanding of physical motion, weight, balance, and form
• Knowledge of human and animal anatomy
• Life drawing skills
• 2 year diploma or 1 year certificate or 2-3 years of relevant experience
