Google DeepMind is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead a team in Tokyo focused on developing multimodal assistive agents (Astra). The manager will play a key role in enhancing agent experiences through AI, leveraging multimodal large language models.
The role requires technical expertise in prompt engineering and post-training techniques, understanding of the multimodal LLM and assistive agent landscape, and leadership skills.

Requirements:
- Master's or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or related field

- 2+ years of experience directly managing and leading high-performing engineering teams.
- Experience working with researchers and engineers in research domains, ideally including multimodal AI.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary environment.
- Strong communication skills in English and Japanese.
