Elasticsearch - Senior Software Engineer (Performance Team)

Job Description

Elastic is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join its Elasticsearch Performance Engineering team. In this role, the candidate will focus on architecting and developing automated tooling for benchmarking Elasticsearch ingest and search workloads at scale in the cloud. They will define best practices for performance benchmarking, develop methodologies for optimal instance selection across cloud providers, and create solutions for benchmarking diverse use cases. The candidate will also investigate and resolve performance escalations.

What this role involves:

• Participating in the design and building of tooling and automated processes for provisioning and execution of Elasticsearch performance benchmarking jobs at scale.
• Defining best practices, methodologies, and guidelines for performance benchmarking of Elasticsearch servicing development teams and solution architects.
• Developing methodologies and processes for benchmarking Elasticsearch to determine the optimal price-performant instance type selection across Cloud Service providers.
• Devising solutions for benchmarking disparate use cases and workloads for Elasticsearch stateful and serverless products at scale.
• Architecting solutions for performance benchmarking of evolving and key product features of Elasticsearch.
• Investigating and assisting in resolving performance escalations and capacity planning issues as required.

Requirements:

• Proficiency in Python, Java, and Linux shell scripting (5+ years' recent, professional experience).
• Familiarity with Linux system-level performance measurement and associated tooling.
• Knowledge of cloud orchestration with Kubernetes.
• Experience with cloud architectures, service models, and operating across multiple cloud service providers.
• Ability to assess tradeoffs from both performance and deployment perspectives.
• Ability to multitask, effectively manage your time, and collaborate with team members globally across time zones.
