Job Description
Canonical is seeking an Observability Engineering Manager to lead the development of distributed tracing or service mesh products as part of their Observability group. This role involves leading and reviewing both architecture and code, as well as managing a distributed team of engineers in the Americas or EMEA regions.Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems, with Ubuntu being widely used in enterprise initiatives. The company embraces global distributed collaboration with colleagues in numerous countries and emphasizes in-person team meetings. The role offers an exciting opportunity for engineers passionate about open source, Linux, Kubernetes, and Observability.Responsibilities include:
  • Managing a distributed team of engineers and its observability portfolio
  • Organizing and leading team processes
  • Conducting one-on-one meetings with team members
  • Identifying and measuring team health indicators
  • Reviewing code
  • Representing Canonical at conferences
Requirements:
  • Exceptional academic record
  • Proven experience in software delivery
  • Professional software development experience (preferably open source)
  • Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year
  • Professional written and spoken English
  • Experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Passion, thoughtfulness, and self-motivation
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
