Canonical is seeking an experienced Engineering Director, Devices Quality Engineering to lead the strategy and implementation of next-generation Ubuntu hardware enablement QA. This role is crucial for transforming Linux certification and ensuring the best long-term OS stability on PC, server, and IoT hardware. The Engineering Director will lead a team responsible for quality coordination and integration testing of software stacks with hardware.

The candidate will work with teams across the company to drive quality improvements through the entire development cycle. Canonical intends to deliver continuous quality and certification across its certified hardware portfolio, continuously testing devices to ensure every change to Ubuntu is verified. The company measures energy consumption to reduce the carbon footprint of Ubuntu usage.

Canonical is building a large Linux device certification facility in Taipei. The Engineering Director's primary responsibility is to ensure teams measure outcomes, make process improvements, and find career satisfaction. This position requires residing in Taipei.

The role involves:

  • Managing, mentoring, and growing software engineering teams
  • Leading QA Engineering team activities, planning, and improving automated testing
  • Executing automated and manual testing of Ubuntu Desktop and Core
  • Overseeing continuous improvement projects and establishing proactive measures
  • Preparing time estimates and schedules for testing
  • Working with development teams to build efficient automated testing
  • Developing engineering managers and maintaining Canonical culture
  • Hiring staff-level engineers
  • Measuring team health and productivity and implementing rigorous processes
  • Representing the product to stakeholders and partners

Requirements:

  • Exceptional academic track record
  • Undergraduate degree in a technical subject
  • Outstanding Linux-based software engineering track record
  • Experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred)
  • Leadership and a track record of developing people
