Canonical is seeking a Software Platform Engineering Manager to lead engineering teams focused on enabling and optimizing Ubuntu for the latest hardware platforms. This is a globally remote role. The Engineering Manager will be responsible for line management, career guidance, and driving collaboration with other teams and customers. The ideal candidate will be an outstanding developer with experience in operational systems, open source technologies, and cutting-edge hardware.

Role Involves:

  • Leading and developing a team of engineers.
  • Overseeing commercial engagements and supporting timely project delivery.
  • Participating as a technical lead on complex customer engagements.
  • Implementing disciplined engineering processes.
  • Integrating and maintaining platform-oriented software stacks.
  • Optimizing Ubuntu for the latest hardware platforms.
  • Displaying technical leadership internally and within external communities.
  • Contributing to code reviews and technical documentation.
  • Collaborating with other leaders as part of the leadership team.

Requirements:

  • Exceptional academic track record.
  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, or a compelling alternative narrative.
  • Fluency in C, C++, and Python.
  • Experience with Linux and operational systems software.
  • Experience with Debian/Ubuntu or other distro packaging.
  • Experience leading software engineering teams.
  • Professional written and spoken English.
  • Confidence to respectfully speak up, exchange feedback, and share ideas.
  • Thoughtfulness and self-motivation.
  • Result-oriented with a personal drive to meet commitments.
  • Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events.
