Engineering Manager - AppArmor

Job Description

Canonical is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the AppArmor team, contributing to the security of millions of Ubuntu users worldwide. This role involves developing security features for AppArmor, a security module that provides mandatory access control. The Engineering Manager will engage with the community and customers, coordinate efforts across engineering teams, and provide line management and career guidance to the team.

Role Involves:

• Leading and developing a team of engineers.
• Coaching, mentoring, and offering career development feedback.
• Identifying and measuring team health indicators.
• Implementing disciplined engineering processes.
• Representing the team and product to stakeholders, partners, and customers.
• Developing and evangelising great engineering and organizational practices.
• Planning and managing progress on agreed goals and projects.
• Being an active part of the security engineering leadership team.

Requirements:

• Exceptional academic track record.
• Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Experience developing and growing people.
• Organized with a track record of delivering high-quality results.
• Proficient in C with a good understanding of Linux kernel development.
• Experience with Linux Security Modules.
• Knowledgeable and passionate about software and application security.
• Solid experience in an agile development environment.
• Result-oriented with a personal drive to meet commitments.
• Ability to travel twice a year for company events.
