Communications Officer / Senior Communications Advisor

Job Description

The Labour MP Parliamentary office is seeking a Communications Officer/Senior Communications Advisor to manage and develop the external communication presence of the MP Office. This role involves overseeing online platforms, engaging with external providers, supporting the MP's objectives through effective communication, and preparing media briefings. The candidate will evaluate the impact of external communications activity and produce press releases.

Responsibilities:

• Managing and developing the external communication presence of the MP Office.
• Overseeing the monitoring and updating of online platforms including the website and social media.
• Liaising and engaging with external providers and suppliers.
• Supporting the MP’s office and objectives through highly effective communication and social media presence.
• Preparing media briefings.
• Evaluating the impact of external communications activity.
• Producing press releases, liaising with the media, meeting deadlines as appropriate.
• Monitoring media coverage, liaising with media, preparing press releases as required.
• Proactive and reactive communications with all media.
• Managing the MP’s website content.
• Publicizing the MP’s parliamentary duties on social media.
• Establishing a social media presence in the constituency and publicizing surgeries etc.
• Following up on social media queries and comments.
• Ensuring online presence is meeting the demands of the constituency, locality and MP.
• Managing and monitoring social media enquiries, dealing with cases that do not need to be transferred to a higher level.
• Ensuring all enquiries are dealt with in a timely manner.
• Establishing, monitoring, and updating a social media and online presence in the constituency.
• Producing online graphics and video content, as well as publicizing surgeries and news alerts etc.

Requirements:

• Experience in managing and developing external communication.
• Proficiency in monitoring and updating online platforms.
• Ability to liaise and engage with external providers and suppliers.
• Strong communication and social media skills.
• Experience in preparing media briefings and press releases.
