Spektrum is seeking a Political Advisor to support key client projects, specifically the NATO Joint Warfare Centre (JWC) in Stavanger, Norway. The JWC focuses on improving NATO's operational capabilities through training and exercises. This role is integral to the Exercise Control (EXCON) structure, which relies on staff from various backgrounds to deliver full exercise cycles.

The Political Advisor will work within the JWC Higher Control (HICON) group, acting as a response cell during the preparation and execution of operational phases of JWC-directed exercises. HICON replicates the political-military command and control echelons above the training audience’s military echelon. This includes representing entities like the North Atlantic Council and other international organizations. For exercises involving SHAPE, the role includes coaching and mentoring SHAPE staff.

Role Involves:
  • Producing and delivering fictitious political-military documentation.
  • Creating political-military storylines and incidents to support exercise objectives.
  • Replicating interactions between political-military and strategic levels with the training audience.
  • Providing political advice to the HICON cell.
  • Assisting in coaching and mentoring POLAD staffs.
Requirements:
  • 3 years of experience within the last 6 years in a National or NATO Command at political-military level, or strategic level, or in the JWC HICON team.
  • Experience interacting with senior executives at the national or NATO political-military and/or strategic level.
  • Ability to compose and comprehend collaborative texts in advanced English.
  • Familiarity with NATO doctrine, policy, processes, arrangements and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Crisis Response Management System, Strategic and Operational planning Systems, and Training & exercise doctrine.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Held rank above OF-3, preferably OF-5, or equivalent NATO or civilian governmental position.
  • Higher-level University degree and/or equivalent Military/Senior Staff/Defence School graduate.
  • Business English proficiency.
  • Valid National or NATO Secret personal security clearance.
