Job Description
Reddit is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join its Media Infrastructure team. This role is based in New York City and involves developing and scaling the features and services needed to create real-time experiences and spark connections for hundreds of millions of users worldwide.Reddit is a community-driven platform built on shared interests and trust, facilitating open and authentic conversations. The Core Platform team is responsible for the APIs that build listings and enable posts, comments, and various data models that serve as the sources of truth for Reddit.As a Staff Engineer, he/she will be a technical coach and mentor, leveraging technical expertise to ensure high uptime and strong performance of systems. The Staff Engineer will collaborate with others to build a roadmap that aligns with the needs of an ever-growing engineering organization.Responsibilities:
  • Develop and design new and innovative solutions to scaling Reddit
  • Build platform API projects that scale to the rest of the organization
  • Mentor and coach more junior engineers on your direct team to achieve our mission
  • Build, deliver, and operate services that scale to hundreds of thousands of transactions per second at 5+ 9’s of availability
  • Help us to optimize Reddit’s media experience for hundreds of millions of users across the world.
Requirements:
  • Software development experience in Golang or Python
  • 10+ years of experience with large-scale, mission-critical distributed systems.
  • Media delivery expertise including experience with media quality of experience metrics and have successfully optimized media performance, scalability, and delivery by improving different stages of the media stack
  • Working knowledge of CDN technologies (Fastly, Cloudfare, Cloudfront) to optimize video delivery
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Familiarity with API platform service architectures.
  • History of building clean, maintainable, and well-tested code
