Staff Backend Engineer, Publisher Experience

Job Description

Reddit is seeking a Staff Backend Engineer to join its Reddit Pro team. This team focuses on empowering brands and organizations to create engaging content and grow their presence on Reddit. The role involves working cross-functionally to execute product and business strategies, building new products and features, and contributing to team strategy.

The Staff Backend Engineer will participate in the full development cycle, including technical design, development, testing, experimentation, analysis, and launch. The engineer will also contribute to standards that improve developer workflows and mentor junior engineers.

Responsibilities:

• Work cross-functionally with product, design, and engineering teams.
• Contribute to the full development cycle.
• Review code and design documents.
• Contribute meaningfully to team strategy.
• Participate with a team of motivated engineers.
• Contribute to standards that improve developer workflows.

Requirements:

• BS degree in Computer Science or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in large-scale distributed systems.
• 8+ years of software development experience in languages like Go, Python, Ruby, Java, or C++.
• Experience with GraphQL, REST, HTTP, and Thrift.
• Experience with distributed caching layers and large-scale data storage systems like Cassandra.
• Experience mentoring engineers and leading cross-functional projects (preferred).
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Entrepreneurial spirit and a bias towards action.
