Intercom is seeking a Principal Engineer to drive key strategic initiatives and work autonomously within the engineering organization. This role involves building both back-end and front-end systems, collaborating with designers, product managers, researchers, and data analysts. The Principal Engineer will also coach and mentor other engineers, partnering with Group Engineering Managers on technical strategy and leadership.

What the role involves:

  • Driving key strategic projects within the R&D organization.
  • Providing assessments of project progress, risks, and challenges to engineering leadership.
  • Contributing to Intercom's technical architecture as the company scales.
  • Contributing to all phases of software development, including ideation, prototyping, design, and implementation.
  • Playing an active role in hiring, mentoring, and career development of other engineers.
  • Raising the bar for technical standards, performance, reliability, and operational excellence.

Skills needed:

  • Experience building a SaaS product.
  • Demonstrated impact on product and teams.
  • Deep knowledge of a high-level programming language.
  • Experience with distributed systems.
  • 2+ years of experience as a primary technical leader.
  • Experience collaborating with technical leaders, product teams, and designers.
