Senior Core Technologies Engineer at Intercom

Intercom is seeking a Senior Core Technologies Engineer to join their team in Dublin, Ireland. This engineer will be responsible for enabling the core technologies that Intercom is built on, with a focus on building and scaling systems such as MySQL, ElasticSearch, and ingestion pipelines. The ideal candidate will be passionate about owning how these systems operate, from low-level systems engineering to all parts of Intercom's Rails and Python monoliths. Intercom's team's mission is to accelerate Intercom’s growth and stability through educated and operationally excellent core technology usage.

What the role involves:

• Collaborating with domain experts to shape the technical direction and infrastructure.
• Owning aspects of Intercom's infrastructure and autonomously executing on high-impact projects.
• Contributing to all phases of software development, including ideation, prototyping, design, and implementation.
• Playing an active role in the hiring, mentoring, and career development of other engineers.
• Raising the bar for technical standards, performance, reliability, and operational excellence.

Requirements:

• Excellent pragmatic engineering skills.
• 5+ years of experience in a production environment, with contributions to the design and architecture of distributed systems.
• Expertise in backend technologies such as MySQL, Elasticsearch, Memcached, as well as Linux.
• Experience scaling a SaaS product.
• Proficiency with standard software engineering methodologies.
• Understanding of modern web apps and distributed systems.
• Experience as a technical lead for large multi quarter projects and programs including defining the roadmap.
• Ability to learn quickly, adapt, and persist in solving complex problems.
