The Staff Machine Learning Scientist will play a key role in shaping Intercom's AI customer service capabilities, working closely with product and design teams to identify areas where machine learning can drive value. This position also involves mentoring other engineers and raising the bar for technical standards.

Responsibilities include:

  • Actively participating in hiring, mentoring, and career development.
  • Raising technical standards and operational excellence.
  • Identifying ML opportunities for customer value.
  • Framing product problems with ML solutions.
  • Conducting exploratory data analysis and research.
  • Researching and identifying appropriate algorithms and tools.
  • Performing offline evaluations to validate algorithms.
  • Collaborating with engineers to bring prototypes to production.
  • Planning, measuring, and sharing learnings for iteration.
  • Partnering with the team to build excellent ML products.

Requirements:

  • 5-8 years of applied ML experience.
  • Senior/Staff role background in data science, software development, or academia.
  • Demonstrated impact on product and teams.
  • Strong programming skills.
  • Experience as a primary technical team leader.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Comfort with ambiguity.
  • Advanced education in ML or related field (MSc).
  • Scientific thinking skills.
