Director of Employment (Legal Counsel)

Job Description

Alo Yoga and BELLA+CANVAS is seeking a Director of Employment (Legal Counsel) to support employment counseling, contract, and policy needs. This hybrid role, based in Beverly Hills, CA, requires in-office presence three days a week. The Director will oversee employment law, policy, and compliance across operations, working with HR, Benefits, Payroll, and Retail teams.

Responsibilities

• Advise on US employment matters, focusing on California employment law.
• Provide legal guidance on employee relations, terminations, and investigations.
• Draft employment-related agreements and communications.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws.
• Advise on international employment matters, ensuring compliance with local labor laws.
• Collaborate with local counsel on cross-border employment issues.
• Support the drafting and implementation of international policies and employment contracts.
• Draft, review, and update company-wide employment policies.
• Conduct regular audits of employment practices.
• Conduct training sessions for HR teams and managers.
• Serve as a trusted advisor to HR leadership.
• Assess and mitigate legal risks related to workforce management.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in big law and/or in-house roles.
• J.D. from a top tier law school.
• Admission to California bar.
• Strong understanding of US federal and California employment laws and international employment regulations.
• Experience advising multinational organizations on employment issues.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience advising retail companies is preferred but not required..
