Sotheby's is seeking a Temporary Jewellery Specialist in Geneva. The role involves functioning as a business getter, working with senior management in Switzerland to source and sell property, focusing on private collectors and the trade to meet European revenue targets.

Responsibilities:

  • Proactively sourcing and generating business opportunities in Switzerland for global Jewellery auctions and private sales.
  • Leveraging and growing strong client relationships, with a focus on private clients, collections, institutions and the trade community.
  • Generating private sales in line with plan revenue targets.
  • Drive bidding participation in the International Jewellery sales from your client contacts.
  • Value property to provide auction, fixed price, fair market, insurance estimates as required
  • Prepare proposals and carrying out valuations, working closely with the Valuations department.
  • Arrange and attend sweeps to source property.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Magnificent Jewels, Head of Fine Jewels EMEA, and client development to develop private client leads and strategy with the goal of consignment generation for auction and private sale
  • Attend relevant events, exhibitions, etc. to develop your profile both internally and externally
  • Act as an ambassador for the Jewellery business internally and externally for Sotheby’s, promoting its services, products and expertise to internal stakeholders, cross selling the Sotheby’s Jewellery business to all Sotheby’s clients
  • Oversee the day-to-day client enquiries by email, telephone etc.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of professional experience as an expert in Jewellery and the Global Jewellery market. Experience in auction preferred.
  • Gemmological qualification (GIA or an equivalent) with expertise in pricing and authenticating high value jewel stones and gems.
  • Able to value jewellery at various price points for sale at auction and insurance.
  • Familiar with antique and modern jewellery, along with relevant hallmarks, makers’ marks and signatures.
  • Previous experience presenting or lecturing on jewellery advantageous
  • Commit to uphold ethical standards at the highest level, consistent with Sotheby’s reputation.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills – both spoken and written.
  • Fluent in French and English
