Job Description

Tide is seeking a highly experienced Staff Backend Engineer to join their Developer Experience team in Bulgaria. The DevEx team acts as a bridge between Tide's product-focused engineering teams and the platform engineering team, focusing on automation, reducing friction, and creating a positive engineering experience.

The ideal candidate will have a strong backend engineering background with exposure to cloud technologies and a passion for tooling and improving developer workflows. They should possess a good understanding of Agile methodologies and experience mentoring other engineers. This individual contributor role requires leadership qualities and a desire for continuous learning and growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Drive the improvement of Java and Python CI/CD pipelines.
  • Lead initiatives to improve tooling and reduce toil amongst developer teams.
  • Champion best practices in software development and agile methodologies.
  • Train and mentor junior engineers from different disciplines.
  • Collaborate with other teams to ensure DevEx solutions meet business needs.

Requirements:

  • In-depth knowledge of Python, Java, or Go, with a willingness to learn new languages.
  • Good working knowledge of API development; knowledge of web or mobile development is a plus.
  • Automation skills, including Infrastructure as Code.
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms and technologies such as AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, and EKS.
  • Experience working with containers.
  • A track record of mentoring junior engineers.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
