Job Description

Tide is seeking a highly experienced Staff Backend Engineer to join their Developer Experience team. This role is pivotal in bridging the gap between Tide's product-focused engineering teams and the platform engineering team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in backend engineering and exposure to cloud technologies, with a passion for tooling and improving the engineering experience.

The Staff Backend Engineer will drive improvements in Java and Python CI/CD pipelines, lead initiatives to enhance tooling, and champion best practices in software development. They will also mentor junior engineers and collaborate with other teams to ensure DevEx solutions meet business needs. Tide is rapidly growing, expanding into new products and markets and always looking for passionate and driven people.

Role involves:

  • Driving the improvement of Java and Python CI/CD pipelines.
  • Leading initiatives to improve tooling and reduce toil amongst developer teams.
  • Championing best practices in software development and agile ways of working.
  • Training and mentoring junior engineers from different disciplines.
  • Working with other teams to ensure that DevEx solutions meet the needs of the business.

Requirements:

  • In-depth knowledge of Python, Java, or Go.
  • Good working knowledge of API development.
  • Automation skills including Infrastructure as Code.
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms and technologies (AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, EKS).
  • Experience working with containers.
  • A track record of mentoring junior engineers.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
