Datacenter Infrastructure Engineer Lead

xAI is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Datacenter Infrastructure Engineer Lead to oversee the design, deployment, and maintenance of their state-of-the-art data center infrastructure. The ideal candidate will ensure the reliability, scalability, and efficiency of data center operations, supporting xAI’s mission to drive innovation and excellence.

This role requires deep understanding of data center engineering, including power, cooling, and networking systems, and strong leadership capabilities to guide a team of infrastructure engineers. The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT, construction, facilities, and operations, to ensure integration and alignment with company objectives.

Responsibilities include:

• Leading the design and planning of electrical and HVAC systems for new data center builds and expansions.
• Overseeing the installation of high-capacity power distribution units (PDUs), UPS systems, cooling units, and other critical infrastructure.
• Managing the maintenance schedule and ensuring all electrical and HVAC systems operate at optimal efficiency.
• Analyzing and forecasting power and cooling needs based on current and projected IT loads.
• Supervising a team of engineers and technicians, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations.
• Acting as project manager for major infrastructure projects, from conception through to commissioning.
• Ensuring all work complies with local, state, and federal regulations concerning electrical and HVAC systems.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in data center operations, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
• Expertise in data center electrical systems (transformers, switchgear, generators, UPS systems) and HVAC systems (CRAC units, cooling towers, chilled water systems).
• Proficient with CAD tools like AutoCAD or Revit for design documentation.
• Strong project management skills.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and team management skills.
