Takealot Group is seeking a Group Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to lead the tech strategy and engineering teams for Takealot.com and Mr D, reporting to the Group CEO. This role involves driving technological innovation, shaping the digital roadmap, and aligning technology requirements with the company's vision and strategy.

The Group CTO will be responsible for defining and delivering a comprehensive technical strategy aligned with business goals, overseeing the Mr D CTO, and building a vibrant engineering culture focused on ownership, accountability, and innovation. The ideal candidate should be willing to get hands-on and should have a strong desire to work with engineers at all levels.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish the company’s technical vision and lead all aspects of technological development.
  • Play a crucial role in driving technological innovation, shaping the digital roadmap, and ensuring the successful implementation of technology initiatives.
  • Collaborate with product and business leadership to align technology requirements with the company’s vision, strategy, and roadmap.
  • Steer the organisation toward greater efficiencies and better performance by adopting the right technology investments.
  • Identify technology trends to continuously scale up the products with a strong focus on AI capabilities to drive customer experience and resource efficiency
  • Develop IT architecture strategies, partnering with the security team to implement changes to existing technology, keeping up to date with current and future levels of IT security, threats, vulnerabilities
  • Demonstrate strong leadership traits to gain the trust & confidence of existing technology and product leaders and build a culture of growth, learning, and innovation
  • Build a vibrant engineering culture focused on ownership, accountability, teamwork, and curiosity
  • Maintain rigorous performance management practices to uphold high standards of performance and accountability whilst maintaining, growing, and evolving our group's technical talent and organisational structure.
  • Ensure the technical budget is properly forecasted, monitored, and optimized.

Requirements:

  • 20+ years of experience, with 5-8 years in leadership roles in eCommerce or relevant industry.
  • Expertise in engineering processes, software development lifecycle, agile development, and modern distributed computing systems.
  • Strong understanding of DevOps practices, data architectures, AI capabilities, cloud infrastructure, and security frameworks.
  • Ability to innovate, make decisions, and effect change through influence.
  • Self-managing with strong organisational, time management, mathematical and financial skills.
