Notion is seeking a Commercial Counsel to be the first attorney in their Tokyo office. This role will support the Tokyo, Seoul, and Sydney sales teams, along with other cross-functional partner teams. The ideal candidate will be excited about Notion's user base and passionate about joining a dedicated team.He/She will:
- Provide legal support for Seoul, Sydney, and Tokyo teams.
- Offer practical legal advice on local and global laws, including privacy and data protection.
- Negotiate legal solutions for commercial transactions.
- Improve contracting processes.
- Develop and revise contract templates.
- Take ownership of special projects to localize legal agreements.
- Is admitted to the Japan Bar or approved as a Bengoshi/Gaikokuho Jimu Bengoshi.
- Has 10+ years of experience as a commercial attorney, including 5+ years in-house at a software company.
- Can manage SaaS agreements with enterprise customers.
- Has excellent communication skills.
- Has experience advising on global privacy regulations (e.g., APPI, GDPR).
- Demonstrates resilience, resourcefulness, and the ability to build relationships.
- Possesses professional fluency in Japanese and English.
