Notion is seeking a Commercial Counsel to be the first attorney in their Tokyo office. This role will support the Tokyo, Seoul, and Sydney sales teams, along with other cross-functional partner teams. The ideal candidate will be excited about Notion's user base and passionate about joining a dedicated team.He/She will:
  • Provide legal support for Seoul, Sydney, and Tokyo teams.
  • Offer practical legal advice on local and global laws, including privacy and data protection.
  • Negotiate legal solutions for commercial transactions.
  • Improve contracting processes.
  • Develop and revise contract templates.
  • Take ownership of special projects to localize legal agreements.
Notion looking for someone who:
  • Is admitted to the Japan Bar or approved as a Bengoshi/Gaikokuho Jimu Bengoshi.
  • Has 10+ years of experience as a commercial attorney, including 5+ years in-house at a software company.
  • Can manage SaaS agreements with enterprise customers.
  • Has excellent communication skills.
  • Has experience advising on global privacy regulations (e.g., APPI, GDPR).
  • Demonstrates resilience, resourcefulness, and the ability to build relationships.
  • Possesses professional fluency in Japanese and English.
