Applied Meteorological Scientist

Job Description

The Weather Company is seeking an Applied Meteorological Scientist to join their Science and Forecasting Operations group. The role focuses on creating and operating world-class weather forecasting technologies. The Applied Meteorological Scientist will collaborate with scientists and software engineers to refine core elements of the company's weather technology portfolio and work with cross-functional teams on various consumer and enterprise applications. This position involves analyzing weather datasets, formulating hypotheses, experiments, and developing practical solutions to advance weather analysis and forecasting capabilities.

• Assist in the development, implementation, and assessment of forecasting technologies
• Develop hypotheses to improve the quality of meteorological data and processes
• Apply AI and machine learning to improve weather forecasting accuracy
• Acquire, maintain, and manage large-scale meteorological datasets
• Analyze complex meteorological datasets using statistical techniques
• Present findings to internal teams and stakeholders
• Provide expert consultation on weather and climate-related issues
• Stay updated on meteorological science and technology advancements
• Develop and maintain scientific code using programming tools
• Participate in professional scientific exchange activities and conferences

• Ph.D. in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience
• 5+ years of experience in applied meteorological research
• Understanding of meteorological, statistical, and data science principles
• Strong programming skills in Python, MATLAB, C++
• Experience analyzing large meteorological datasets
• Familiarity with AI-based weather forecasting technologies
• Proficiency working in Linux in an HPC and/or cloud environment
• Ability to synthesize data and articulate results clearly
• Ability to work independently on complex projects
