Applied Meteorological Scientist

Job Description

The Weather Company is seeking an Applied Meteorological Scientist to join its Science and Forecasting Operations group. The successful candidate will contribute to the creation and operation of world-class weather forecasting technologies and collaborate with cross-functional teams on diverse consumer and enterprise products. He/she will analyze weather datasets, formulate hypotheses, conduct experiments, and develop solutions to advance weather analysis and forecasting capabilities.

Role involves:

• Developing and assessing forecasting technologies.
• Developing hypotheses to improve meteorological data quality.
• Applying AI and machine learning to improve forecasting accuracy.
• Managing large-scale meteorological datasets.
• Analyzing datasets using statistical techniques.
• Presenting findings to stakeholders.
• Providing expert consultation on weather-related issues.
• Staying updated on advancements in meteorological science.
• Developing scientific code using Python, MATLAB, C++, and shell scripting.
• Participating in scientific exchange activities and conferences.
• Participating in Agile scrums and strategic planning.
• Driving innovation in weather forecasting.

Requirements:

• Ph.D. in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of experience in applied meteorological research or technical positions.
• Understanding of meteorological, statistical, and data science principles.
• Strong programming skills in Python, MATLAB, C++, and similar languages.
• Experience analyzing complex meteorological datasets.
• Familiarity with AI-based weather forecasting technologies.
• Proficiency in Linux in an HPC and/or cloud environment.
• Excellence in synthesizing data and articulating results.
• Ability to work independently on complex projects.
• Prior participation in professional organizations.
• Track record of pragmatic, innovative solutions.
• Leadership, communication, and team collaboration capabilities.
