Director of Engineering

Job Description

Opendoor is seeking a highly experienced Director of Engineering to lead their engineering teams. The Director will drive engineering strategy, execution, and team development.

What this role involves:

• Providing strategic technical leadership.
• Leading, mentoring, and growing high-performing engineering teams.
• Overseeing the development and deployment of scalable software solutions.
• Collaborating cross-functionally with product, design, data science, and operations teams.
• Establishing and implementing best practices for software development, system architecture, security, and DevOps.
• Driving engineering excellence through metrics, KPIs, and continuous process improvements.
• Managing technical debt.
• Staying ahead of industry trends and emerging technologies.

Requirements:

• 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
• Proven track record of leading large engineering teams and delivering complex, high-impact projects.
• Strong background in modern software development practices, cloud technologies, and scalable architectures.
• Experience working in a high-growth, technology-driven company, preferably within proptech, fintech, or marketplace businesses.
• Exceptional problem-solving skills, strategic thinking, and ability to balance technical depth with business priorities.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience with data-driven decision-making and experimentation.
